WHAT TO EXPECT
Kenya is one of Africa’s crown jewels—and it’s easy to see why. Picture yourself cruising past zebras and elephants on the vast savannah of the Maasai Mara, diving into turquoise waters off the Diani coast, or sipping local coffee while watching Nairobi come alive.

Solo travel to Africa can be intimidating, but with us, you're never really “solo.” You're part of a small, intentional group of like-minded millennial travelers between the ages of 25–39. We time this adventure to line up with peak wildlife viewing season, meaning you’ll have the best shot at seeing the Big Five—and maybe even the Great Migration in motion. It’s a bit like nature’s version of roulette: will a lion wander by? Will elephants suddenly appear over the ridge? It keeps you engaged, alert, and totally in the moment.

So whether you’re watching the sunrise over the savannah with your new travel besties, dancing barefoot on the beach in Diani, or swapping stories under the stars at a safari campfire, this trip is about connection—to a place, a culture, and a group of people you otherwise might’ve never met. If you’ve been waiting for a big adventure with an incredible group of people, this is it.

Day 2 - Nairobi, Maasai Mara
Tea Partay
Good morning from Nairobi, Kenya! The adventure is officially underway. Today, we leave the capital behind and begin our journey toward one of the most iconic destinations on the African continent: the legendary Maasai Mara.

Before heading deep into the bush, we’ll stop at a working tea farm nestled in the highlands. Kenya is one of the world’s leading tea exporters, and this visit offers a chance to learn how it’s grown, harvested, and brewed. It’s a mid-morning pick-me-up—complete with a laid-back lunch to break up the drive.

By afternoon, we’ll arrive at our riverside safari camp near the Tanzanian border—your home base for the next few nights. Settle in, take in the sounds of the wild, and get ready for an early dinner with the group. Tomorrow, we hit the ground running with our first game drive through the Maasai Mara. Trust us—it’s going to be unforgettable.

Day 3 - Maasai Mara
Wild Country
Welcome to the heart of the wild—Maasai Mara is hands down one of our favorite safari destinations in all of Africa. With its vast open plains and golden savannahs stretching as far as the eye can see, this is the Africa you’ve always imagined. Today, you’ll experience it in the most authentic way possible: on a full-day game drive led by expert guides who know this land inside and out.

We’ll set off in 4x4 vehicles in search of the legendary Big Five—elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, and leopards. But the magic of the Mara goes beyond just the big names. This region is teeming with life, from elegant giraffes to stealthy cheetahs, and massive herds of zebras and wildebeests grazing along the horizon.

As the sun begins to set, we’ll make our way back to camp for a well-earned dinner. Gather around the fire with your travel fam, swap stories from the day, and stargaze beneath the vast African sky.

Day 4 - Maasai Mara
Natural Habitat
Mahali Mzuri means “beautiful place” in Swahili, but even that doesn’t quite capture the magic of waking up in the Maasai Mara. Whether it’s jet lag or sheer anticipation that pulls you from bed before sunrise, the stillness of the early morning here is something special. Spanning over 580 square miles, the Maasai Mara is a haven for wildlife—and you’re right in the heart of it.

This place is tailor-made for exploration, which is why we’ve dedicated multiple days to game drives. You never know what you’ll see or when you’ll see it: a lion emerging from the brush, elephants marching across the horizon, or zebras kicking up dust in the golden light. It’s all part of the thrill, and it’s slowly becoming one of our favorite corners of the world.

As evening sets in, we’ll return to camp for another unforgettable dinner. With the Kenyan sky ablaze in pinks and purples, you’ll eat, laugh, and reflect on another day of once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Day 5 - Maasai Mara
Warrior Culture
With so much to take in across East Africa, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed trying to plan the perfect trip—especially when it comes to finding real, meaningful ways to connect with locals. And let’s be honest, the language barrier doesn’t always make it easy. Luckily, we know a few people on the ground 😉.

At FTLO, connecting with the communities we visit isn’t just something we add in—it’s at the core of how we travel. So today, we’re spending time in a nearby Maasai village to get a look into their culture, history, and way of life. You’ll hear directly from members of the tribe and experience the land through their eyes, not just as visitors, but as welcomed guests.

Depending on the day, you might be invited to join a blessing ceremony, learn about medicinal plants while walking through the Loita Hills, or sit around the fire as stories and songs are shared.

Day 6 - Maasai Mara, Diani Beach
to the coast
Here’s a little perspective: if you combined the U.S., China, India, and most of Europe into one landmass, you’d still only be scratching the surface of Africa’s scale and diversity. This continent is massive—snow-capped mountains, red deserts, emerald jungles, and yes, some of the most stunning beaches in the world. When we set out to build this itinerary, we wanted to showcase just how wild and varied Kenya really is—and now it’s time for the coastal chapter.

So, we’re heading to Diani Beach. You’ve probably never heard of it, and that’s kind of the point. With white sands and turquoise waters, it’s the perfect place to unwind after the adrenaline of the Mara.

Tonight, we’ll gather for a one-of-a-kind dinner inside a coral cave. Think candlelit tables, natural rock walls, and an open-air ceiling revealing the stars above. The perfect nightcap.

Day 7 - Diani Beach
Set Sail
There’s nothing we love more than disconnecting from the online world and unwinding in a tropical paradise. The Diani Beach coastline is a hidden gem, home to some of the best snorkeling and diving in East Africa. Today, we’ll soak up the sun, dip our toes into the warm waters, and explore the untouched marine wonders aboard a traditional dhow boat.

The sparkling blue sea here is teeming with vibrant clownfish, graceful sea turtles, and colorful coral formations that look like they’ve been lifted straight from a David Attenborough documentary—so get ready to dive in and scope the scenes alongside your fellow underwater adventurers. 🤿

After a day on the water, we’ll sail back to shore for fresh seafood that tastes even better knowing it was caught just off the coast. Then, we’ll visit the Shimoni Slave Caves, a significant historical site where enslaved people were once held before being shipped across the Indian Ocean—offering a powerful glimpse into the region’s past and the harsh realities of the East African slave trade.

Float
Day 8 - Diani Beach
taste of tradition
By now, you’ve probably realized something pretty amazing: even if you came on this trip solo, you’ll never really be alone. You’ve shared wild adventures, deep conversations, and maybe even a few dance floors with your new crew—and there’s more to come.

In the afternoon, we’ll meet up for a guided street food and market tour that’ll take your taste buds on a trip of their own. While we love a good sit-down meal, street food has a kind of soul no restaurant can replicate. It’s how locals eat, gather, and connect—and one of the best ways to get a real taste of Kenyan culture.

On the menu? In short, Kenya’s answer to comfort food. We’ll keep a little mystery, but expect a few staples like Swahili porridge; coconut rice with coconut fish; and palm wine—a traditional fermented drink tapped straight from palm trees, slightly sweet with a natural fizz. The rest? You’ll just have to wait until you get there 😉 Consider this your crash course in Kenyan cuisine—no translation app needed.

Day 9 - Diani Beach, Nairobi
Last Moments
This morning, we’ll catch a flight back to where it all began—Nairobi, a city that’s all too often overlooked by travelers. But we take you there for a reason. One of our core missions at FTLO is to offer more than just a vacation or the version of a place you see online—we want to take you deeper and help you experience life through a local lens. So before the trip officially wraps, our guide on the ground will show us some of his favorite hidden gems around the capital, including the main marketplace—a perfect spot to pick up a few souvenirs and one of the best places to grab a light bite.

Later, we’ll head back to the hotel to freshen up and get ready for one final meal together. It’s hard not to feel a wave of nostalgia. Somehow, in just over a week, a group of strangers became family—sharing bucket list moments like spotting the Big Five, laughing until our stomachs hurt, and collecting stories that can’t really be retold (you just had to be there).

And while this chapter is coming to a close, the friendships are going home with you. 🙂

Day 10 - Nairobi
Kwaheri!
As we say goodbye to Kenya, it’s hard to believe how quickly this journey has come to an end. Give your travelmates one final hug and don’t forget to exchange socials and phone numbers—we have a feeling these friendships are going to go the distance.

And if you don’t have to head home just yet, why stop here? With Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as a hub, why not extend your adventure and explore more of what Africa has to offer?

Consider stepping into the stunning landscapes of South Africa, where you can explore everything from Cape Town’s beaches to the depths of its history. Or maybe Morocco’s colorful souks, desert landscapes, and rich cultural blend are calling your name. Whatever your next destination, Africa has endless possibilities waiting. Until next time!
